What We Don't Collect

We believe the best way to protect your privacy is to not collect your information in the first place. Our Family Chore Roulette is a fully static, client-side application. Here is what we explicitly do not collect:

• No accounts, no logins: There is no sign-up form, no password, no user profile. You open the site and play immediately.
• No family member personal data: Names you type for the roulette wheel are stored locally in your browser's localStorage and are never sent to our servers. We never see your kids' names.
• No chore history tracking: Who did dishes last Tuesday stays between you and your family. We do not log results on any server.
• No location data: We do not ask for or collect GPS data, IP-based geolocation for profiling, or your home address.
• No analytics fingerprinting: We do not use intrusive fingerprinting, cross-site tracking pixels, or behavioral tracking tools beyond what Google AdSense requires for ad delivery.
• No newsletter or marketing lists: We do not collect emails for marketing purposes on this site.

In practical terms, you can use Whose Chore Is It? completely offline after the page loads. Your browser is the entire database. Clearing your browser storage will reset the app, which also proves we hold nothing on our end.

Local Storage Only - How the App Works

When you enter family member names and create chore cards, that data is written to your device's localStorage using JavaScript. This is standard browser technology that keeps data on your phone, tablet, or computer. It is not a cookie and it is not transmitted to whose-chore-is-it.app servers. Only you can see it. Only your browser can delete it. No member of our team has access to it. This architecture is intentional for family privacy and for Google AdSense compliance as a useful, transparent static tool.

If you switch devices, your families will not appear on the new device because we did not copy them anywhere. That is a feature, not a bug. It means your data belongs to you.

COPPA - Children's Privacy and Family Use

Whose Chore Is It? is designed for family use, including households with children under 13. We take the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) seriously. Because this is a family tool, we go further than the law requires.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. We do not require children to enter names, email addresses, or any identifiers. If a child enters a name into the roulette wheel, that name remains on the family device only and is never transmitted to us. We have no mechanism to collect it, even if we wanted to.

We do not target advertisements specifically to children and we have configured our site to treat all users in a family-friendly manner. Google AdSense may serve non-personalized ads to users in certain regions or contexts to comply with child privacy rules.

Parents and guardians: You are always in control. You can review your browser's localStorage, remove entries, and supervise use. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please contact us through the contact page and we will promptly remove it from our support inbox. We encourage open family conversations about digital privacy at home.

Contact Form Data Handling

The only time we receive any information directly from you is if you choose to use our Contact page to send us a message, such as a feature idea, bug report, or question about chores.

When you submit the contact form, the data you enter (your message and any optional nickname) is forwarded to our support inbox backend only and is not published, shared, or sold to anyone. For secure internal routing, the payload is encoded as base64 during transit before being decoded on our private server. This encoding is not encryption but prevents accidental exposure in logs. Once delivered, it exists only in our private support inbox used to reply to family feedback.

To be crystal clear: contact form data forwarded to support inbox backend only (base64) as described here. We do not use it for marketing, we do not add it to any mailing list, and we do not profile you with it. We retain support messages for up to 90 days to resolve conversations, then delete them. We never display your contact message publicly.

We do not display our direct support email on this privacy page to reduce spam and scraping. Please use the contact form on the Contact page for any privacy-related request, and we will respond as quickly as possible.

Third-Party Links and External Resources

Our site may contain links to helpful parenting resources or to our own About and Terms pages. If you click a link to an external site, you leave whose-chore-is-it.app and are subject to that site's privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of other websites. We encourage families to review privacy policies before providing information to external services.

Data Security and Your Rights

Because we collect almost nothing, there is almost nothing to secure. Our site is served over HTTPS, which encrypts traffic between your browser and our hosting. For AdSense, Google handles its own ad security. For contact messages, access to our support inbox is restricted to the founder and is not shared with contractors or advertisers.

Depending on your region (such as the EU, UK, California, or ), you may have rights to access, delete, or restrict processing of personal data. Since we do not store your family roulette data, there is nothing for us to provide. For contact form messages, you can request deletion at any time via the contact page, and we will confirm within 14 days. You can also control cookies and localStorage directly in your browser settings at any time, without needing to contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to remain compliant with AdSense, COPPA, and other applicable family privacy regulations. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage families to review this page occasionally. If we make material changes that affect how we handle contact form data, we will highlight those changes here for at least 30 days.
